In calcium carbide production process, moisture is removed from coke in a coke dryer, while limestone is converted to lime in a lime kiln. Fines from coke drying and lime operations are removed and may be recycled. The essential equipments for the calcium carbide manufacturing industry are available with many different types. such as refractory-brick and carbon lined arc furnace, electrode hoisting system, control panel, a water-cooling tower, jaw crusher, screening plant, conveying system, separation machine, processing plant etc.

While large calcium carbide production units of the order of 10,000 tones per annum are set up in this country, there is also plenty of scope for small scale unit of 400 – 600 tones per year which could be set up to cater the local requirements. Such small scale plants could be economically viable.

Calcium Carbide Crushing Machine

In processing applications, the calcium carbide is crushed, dried, ground, and processed. The raw materials, from quarries and underground mines, is crushed and stockpiled near a plant. As needed, the stockpiled ore is further crushed and screened to about 50 millimeters (2 inches) in diameter.

The choice of crushing machine depends on the properties and amount of material to be crushed. Gyratory and jaw crushers are the bulk of primary crushers applied in mining operations modern time. Roller impact crushers, VSI crusher are often used in secondary crushing operations. Cone crushers remain the most popular for fine crushing applications, although some mines use vertical impact crushers for tertiary and quaternary crushing.
